Orchard Park High School

Celebrating Windrush 2022

Orchard Park students celebrated the fifth national Windrush Day.

On 22nd June, Orchard Park celebrated the fifth national Windrush Day. Our brilliant canteen staff put on a delicious Caribbean lunch for staff and students, while the school’s steel pan band performed for everyone.

In form time, Year 7 and 8 students were reminded about the history of the Windrush and the first Caribbean migrants to the UK who arrived on it. Students were asked to reflect on the hugely important contribution of the Windrush generation to life in modern Britain and wrote messages of thanks and appreciation.

The history department ran a whole school Windrush poetry writing competition, and were really impressed at the standard of entries. You can find the winning poem on our website here.Congratulations to the following students:

1st Place: Yerusha Brohiri (10SAN)
2nd Place: Ruby King (8PAN)
