Orchard Park High School

School Meals

The school provides an excellent cafeteria service with a wide choice of healthy foods and drinks.  We consider that the social activity of eating together is a very important part of education and we very much hope that parents/carers will encourage their children to support the service so that we are able to maintain this facility in future years. The school operates a cashless catering system.

If a student has a special dietary requirement on medical grounds, you should inform the school in writing so that any necessary arrangements can be made. Parents/carers can also meet with the catering manager to discuss this further.

The cafeteria runs a cashless system. This allows for cafeteria purchases to be paid for by a machine that reads their fingerprint to avoid delays in handling money at tills. This makes the service much quicker and reduces queues. At the heart of the cashless system there is a computer, which holds details of every student’s account. Orchard Park High School is a ‘cashless school’. Cash is not accepted and all parents/carers are requested to use the schools preferred method of payment, ParentPay.

For our system to work effectively all students will have their biometrics taken so that they can purchase food by using their ‘finger’ account. Consent to obtain biometrics is obtained from parent/carers when students are enrolled at Orchard Park High School.

Meals at the school can be paid for in the following way;

ParentPay online ( is a website linked to the school which holds accounts for each individual student. Here you can pay for school dinners, trips and the school fund.

If you are worried about how much your child is spending each day please contact reception and we can set a daily limit of your choice - there is an automatic limit of £6 set everyday by the school.

If you have any problems or queries regarding payment to the school please contact reception.

Did you know? You can view what your son/daughter has purchased by logging on to ParentPay. Please remember to top up your son/daughters’ dinner account via

Free School Meals

What about students who have free school meals?

Every child has an account. The free school meal entitlement will be £2.60 from September. It will be credited by the caterer to your child’s account on a daily basis. This amount can only be spent on that day at lunch time; it is not available for break. (NB. Any money not spent is not transferred to the following day). You can add more money to your child’s account by topping up their account online.

We therefore strongly urge you to register for free school meals if you are entitled to them. Parents/Carers of students in all years, including the Sixth Form, are entitled to claim free school meals if they receive Income Support, Income Based Job Seekers’ Allowance, support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 or Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by the Inland Revenue, that does not exceed £16,190 or Guarantee element of State Pension Credit. (Please note that other job seekers’ allowances do not qualify)
