Orchard Park High School

Much to celebrate!

A group of Year 8 students attended the ‘Queens’ charity basketball event this week.

This week our Zero Heroes, students without a single behaviour point because they demonstrated outstanding behaviour, completed all their homework, wore their uniform perfectly and upheld our school values immunity were treated to a hot chocolate morning during Period 0. This event is our way of recognising and rewarding their efforts, ensuring they feel appreciated for their exemplary conduct. Over 245 students were recognised as Zero Heroes.

On Tuesday we held a final open morning. We had received so much interest that we added two additional dates to make sure those who wanted to view the school could do so. Again, my huge thanks to our prefects for leading so many school-in-action tours including showing our new community governor, Arnold Quarcoo, around the school today.

Yesterday Ms Hansford took a group of eleven Year 8 students to attend the ‘Queens’ charity basketball event that focused on getting more girls playing basketball. This event included a training session run by a professional coach, a powerful speech given by two professional female basketball players on the important role of education when taking the step into professional sports and finished with an inter schools tournament. The team was captained by Adesuwa who went on to lead the team to a third place finish and Princess was selected as the MVP (most valuable player).

This weekend sees the start of the festival of Diwali. We hope those celebrating have an enjoyable time. I know the students enjoyed preparing for this during today’s Fun ‘Friday’ (Fun Thursday in this case!).

Finally, very well done to Year 7 on completing a really successful first half term at secondary school. We are so pleased with the way you have managed the transition. It is a joy to see your warm, happy greetings on the gate every morning, your impeccable manners around school and your drive to work hard. Of course, some children need more help to make that leap to secondary so a huge thank you to our families and staff for their extra support to those who needed it.

We wish you a restful half term. We return to school on Monday 3rd November.

Ms C Moran, Headteacher
