Orchard Park High School

Fantastic day celebrating women’s football

For International Women's Day, our Year 8 and 9 girls took part in a fantastic football tournament, bringing together schools from across Croydon, Sutton, Lambeth and Bromley.

Alongside the matches, the girls also participated in workshops celebrating women, making it a brilliant day dedicated to empowerment, opportunity and the continued growth of the women's game. Although we narrowly missed out on qualification, the girls can be incredibly proud of their performances throughout the day. Their attitude, teamwork, and behaviour were outstanding, and they represented the school brilliantly. Well done to Sofia, Evie, Lilly, Melissa, Layah, Brooke, Alika, Monae and Pier for their efforts and commitment during a fantastic day celebrating women’s football. Thank you, Ms Goodwin for taking the trip.

On Tuesday, Year 7 PSHE was delivered by an NHS group on personal hygiene as part of their PSHE curriculum. Year 8s had a great opportunity to learn more about Empathy from Jean Campbel, British Fashion Model. She discussed her journey into modelling as a late teen and the pain she faces daily from a genetic condition and having five operations between the ages of 15 and 18. The students heard about the importance of treating each other with empathy.

Thank you to the parents who attended our SEND Coffee Morning. This was a lovely opportunity to meet, share experiences and have a chat with the SENCO and Deputy SENCO focusing on supporting children at home. A copy of the slides is on the school website, under the SEND tab here. We always value the chance to speak to parents and work collaboratively together to improve the learning experiences for our SEND students. Thank you, Ms Brown and Ms Palmieri.

Congratulations to Falisha who is this year's winner of the Jack Petchey Speak Out challenge going through to the Jack Petchey Regional Final. A special mention also goes to Jayden, who was a very close second.

Finally, for British Science Week, students traced an image whilst four of them controlled the pen at once, without talking to one another! The challenge encouraged teamwork, patience, and problem-solving as students worked together to create the best image possible. Well done to Tanya, Edwidge, Prisha and Jasmine for drawing the best robot! We also saw Aleena, Emeka and Oliwer in year 10 lead a science experiment for the other students in our Enhanced Learning Provision extracting DNA from a banana. High quality peer teaching and lots of fun. Well done! A big thank you to Ms Friday for organising this.
