Celebrating Black History Month at Orchard Park

We celebrated Black History Monthduring October with several events run by Equality Club and the history department.
Equality Club led assemblies on the importance of celebrating Black History Month and recognising some significant black Britons and the impact of their activism.
We also had a Black History Month party during Fun Friday organised by Charis, with a range of activities including a competition to make a creative response to this year's theme of 'Standing Firm in Power and Pride.' Students have also been taught about a significant Black Briton in tutor time each day ranging from Roy Hackett to Malorie Blackman.
The history department is running two further competitions: an essay competition on any event or person in black history linked to Britain or in other parts of the world, and a Black History Month passport encouraging pupils to visit locations in London linked to black history. Watvh this space for the results!
