A Festival of PLay for Year 9 students

A group of Year 9 students attended the University of Westminster, for the Festival of Play event.
This week, Years 7 to 9 formally transitioned to their next year group and for the new Years 9 and 10 they saw a change in Head of Year. A huge well done to them all and thank you to our families for your continued support.
On Tuesday, we had an exciting visit from a professional videographer who spent the day capturing all the wonderful things that happen during a typical day at our school. Despite the hot weather, our students were full of energy and enthusiasm, showcasing just how fantastic our school community is. Thank you to all the students who spoke on camera and showed such warmth, honesty and maturity, and to the staff who were filmed in action. We look forward to sharing the final footage with you soon.
On the same day, we hosted our SEND open morning for prospective students with SEND and their parents. It gave them a chance to meet with four of our teaching assistants and to look at the provisions we have in place.
On Wednesday, the students on our Year 8 Excellence Pathway visited The National Gallery at Trafalgar Square. Students had the opportunity to practise their observational and visual literacy skills by focusing on specific paintings from across the gallery and linking them to what they have studied in Year 7 and 8. The students also had the opportunity to sketch a few paintings. Thank you to Ms Pain for planning the activities on the trip.
A group of Year 9 students attended the University of Westminster, for the Festival of Play event. The students had the opportunity to learn about the technology behind video games, meet and hear from different professionals, explore how their interests aligned with STEM and gain hands-on experience with creative tools and technology. Our students enjoyed various activities, from interactive workshops to inspiring talks from people in the game industry. Students also used the art of storytelling to develop their gaming skills. Well done to Shamgar, who was spotted for his excellent storyline game design. Shamgar impressed the workshop coordinators so much that he has been encouraged to apply for the youth BAFTA awards for game development.
Finally, on Friday we welcomed next year’s Tear 7 for their transition day. This was a day where our new students got to experience life at Orchard Park. They had a variety of lessons, including PE, art, science and maths. They experienced singing in a choir and Ms Friday launched the summer self-quizzing task.
