Orchard Park High School

What a busy week!

Students visited our local church to spend a heartwarming afternoon with local residents over tea and cake.

On Monday, 25 talented athletes represented the school at the first Greenshaw Learning Trust inter-school athletics competition held at Bath University. It is with great pride we report on the following successes:

  • Track: KS3 Girls 200m = Shalika 1st, KS4 Girls 200m = Gabby 1st, KS4 Boys 200m = Ricardo 2nd, KS4 Girls 100m = Deborah 3rd, KS4 Boys 100m = Jahmal 2nd, KS4 Girls u15 relay = 3rd, KS4 Boys u15 relay = 3rd.
  • Field: U13 Girls High Jump = Adesuwa 1st, U15 Girls High Jump = Jayda 2nd, U15 Girls Long Jump = Gabby 3rd.

These impressive results, plus the points gained for entry into every event, resulted in the U15 girls and the U15 boys crowned as the second-best teams and Orchard Park received Bronze overall.

On Thursday, students visited our local church to spend a heartwarming afternoon with local residents over tea and cake. The event, held in the church hall, was filled with lively conversations, laughter, and home-baked treats. The students eagerly shared stories and took the time to listen to the life experiences of the older guests. The visit not only brightened the day of the residents but also created a deeper appreciation of our surrounding community. Thank you to Ms Walsh for supporting this project.

On Tuesday, 16 students travelled to the Institute of Technology, as part of the DiversITy project, to present their prototypes to a panel of industry experts. Both teams delivered amazing presentations and the judges were really impressed. It was a fantastic experience, meeting industry professionals and networking, programming drones and being given a tour. Thank you to Mr Boatey-Agyei and Ms King for all their help with this project.

On Thursday, a group of students from Years 10 and 11 went to the Museum of Computing. They were shown how computers have developed through the years and received a talk on how data has been represented from Morse code to modern day processing. Students also completed a workshop where they programmed their own snake game. At the end of the day, they were given time to interact with games such as the original Sonic the Hedgehog and Space Invaders (which most students had never heard of). All students behaved really well and gained an insight into how technology has developed and changed.

We've ended this lovely sunny week with free ice lollies for all students and staff. A reminder that the term finishes on Friday 18th July. There will be a staggered dismissal from 11.50, with all students off site by 12:15. There will be no school bus on that day. Parents will receive a text message when all students are off site. A reminder that all students need to go straight home once they have been dismissed: they should change out of their uniforms before socialising etc.

Reminder

Our Summer Show is on Thursday 17 July at Trinity School, 6.00pm. Tickets are available on your MCAS account.
