Assemblies celebrate Black History Month

House assemblies explore themes for the start of Black History Month.

Our House assemblies this week were led by Mr Shah, exploring ‘Black Excellence’ as part of Black History Month. Thank you to Kemari and Nathan who helped deliver this to their peers. As part of ‘celebrating our sisters’, at each roll call Ms Ruby has challenged students to research a woman pivotal to black history and she has loved hearing what they have discovered.

Mr Facey, Head of Languages, launched our trip to Paris taking place in May. We will fund the places of three students on Free School Meals. You can click here to enter your child in the raffle:

Well done to our Year 7 boys’ football team who, after a nail-biting penalty shoot out, secured a 10-9 win against Sedgehill. Logan, as goalkeeper, deserves a special mention. Year 8 also had a great away-game to Sedgehill, finishing 3-1, with goals scored by Azariah, Jayden M and Donovon (man of the match). Year 9s won 3-2 on Thursday with a thrilling performance from Keetan making over 20 saves to keep Orchard Park in the game. This week, Key Stage 3 students were invited to cheerleading taster sessions with professional coaches. Ms Hansford reports exemplary behaviour and superb effort.

Thank you to our prefects Sophie, Charis, Christos, Joe, Emmi, Niamh, Molly, Alfie, Falisha, Saivarshini, Emmanuella, Divinelyn, Kirsten and Patrick, who have hosted visitors during our very busy open mornings. We’ve received lots of positive feedback on our wonderful students. Thank you also to our canteen staff for this week’s Fun Friday; free and freshly baked chocolate cookies for all.

On Thursday 12th October we are hosting our ‘Welcome to Year 7’ evening for families to receive updates, know how to support their child’s learning and personal development, and meet their child’s form tutor. It begins at 4.00pm (sharp!). A reminder that Friday 13th October is an Inset day.
