Orchard Park High School

All about celebration

We have a lot to celebrate this week!

Our assemblies this week have been all about celebration, recognising the children eligible for Character badges and certificates for working hard in class and always showing our school values. We proudly reward every child who has accumulated Character points, not just ‘the best’ in each year. On Thursday, the students without a single negative point joined myself and Ms Ongley for hot chocolate (with whipped cream and marshmallows of course) for a Zero Heroes celebration. For these children (over 100 of them!), all homework was completed, their uniform was correct every day, they were on time every morning and behaved as they should at all times. Well done – you are amazing!

Wednesday’s Christmas lunch was a huge success with tasty food, wonderful service, Christmas music, crackers and staff in Santa hats. The week ended with Christmas jumper day, we raised money for the Jimmy Mizen Foundation. Jimmy’s parents founded the charity after their son was murdered: it aims to challenge young people to be the change-makers and peace-makers in their local communities. They promote the good in young people by showcasing their positive actions. We are proud to support them. The Mizen Foundation delivered assemblies to pupils and thanked them for their support, encouraging them to choose peace instead of anger or violence. Thank you to Alex (Year 9), Ben (Year 9), Krystal (Year 10), Ty (Year 10) and Zak (Year 9) for being at the gate today, shaking their house buckets and raising money for charity. We collected over £170.

Well done to the Geography Quiz Masters team, Zach, Liam, Kamari and Abdul (Year 9) for gaining first place in 'The big end of 2023 geography quiz' in geography club this Monday. Our Year 10 boy’s football team played Quest Academy yesterday, winning one-nil (well done to Joe, scoring in the last minutes).

Rehearsals for the Winter Show have been taking place all day, filling the school corridors with festive songs, music and drama pieces. We look forward to seeing the full production on Monday.

The last day of term is Tuesday 19th December. Children will be dismissed in a staggered order between 11.45 and 12.20.
