Orchard Park High School

Happy International Womens’ Day!

We celebrated International Women's Day today.

Our Equality Club joined Mr Clarke and me at the gate this morning, distributing International Women's Day (IWD) stickers to all students as they entered. They then delivered a fantastic assembly with Ms Ongley, which included a moving performance of Gloria’s monologue from the Barbie movie. They also delivered a daffodil to every woman working in our school. Fun Friday involved children and staff making pledges to tackle inequality and injustice. Today, Year 8 girls visited KPMG, an experience designed as part of IWD to help the next generation thrive in industries where they may typically be underrepresented.

We also marked World Book Day with a full week of activities. Molly scooped the Orcahrd Park first prize for her outstanding book token design submission (pictured). Sofia and Sidona were close runners up. We wait with baited breath to see if any of our entrants claim the £500 national first prize. Thursday's World Book Day quiz was won by Jodie, Sidona, and Tina's team, who dazzled Ms Simons with their knowledge of authors, varied genres, and literature adapted for the screen. Friday's Book Bingo event continues into next week, with our students canvassing their teachers, friends, and family members for book recommendations. Please find Mr Douglas next week to collect your winning prizes, and remember to cash in your £1 book tokens before the 31st March deadline.

We have also made contact with the Year 6 children who will be joining us in September. Proudly, the school remains very popular (with waiting lists for all year groups). We are excited to welcome the children and their families.

A reminder that year 8 Parents’ Evening is on 21st March at 4.00pm.
