Orchard Park High School

a day full of skill and determination

Year 9 and 10 students took part in the Matt Ratana Rugby 10s Tournament.

Last Friday, Year 9 and 10 students took part in the Matt Ratana Rugby 10s Tournament, delivering a day full of determination, skill and standout moments. Jermaine, Alfie and Raphael were exceptional throughout, driving the team forward with real quality. After several exciting matches, we were in the 3rd/4th place play-off against Riddlesdown. Although they struck early with a quick try, this seemed to spark us into life. The boys responded brilliantly with three rapid tries, sealing a confident and deserved win. The day finished with several outstanding achievements. Jermaine, Alfie, Raphael, Tem and Shay were scouted and recommended for a rugby academy scheme, a fantastic recognition of their talent. Jermaine was awarded player of the tournament. A huge well done to all involved and thank you to Mr West for arranging the experience.

Futures event

Twelve of our Year 10 students attended the St Dunstan’s Futures event yesterday evening. The event, which we were invited to as part of our ongoing partnership with St Dunstan’s, included exhibitors from across a range of industries and universities. Well done to Mary, Jessica, Alfie, Jermaine, Zane, Shamgar, Stephanie, Jia, Falisha, Leah, Leila and Finley who asked brilliant questions and made the most of the opportunity.

'Jumpers for Jimmy' Day

We will be holding our annual ‘Jumpers for Jimmy’ day on Thursday 11th December. Staff and students are encouraged to wear a Christmas jumper in memory of teenager Jimmy Mizen. Jimmy’s parents have asked us to support them again in raising funds to continue their work on Jimmy’s legacy of forgiveness, peace and hope so that all young people can grow up feeling safe in their communities. Festive jumper-wearers are asked to pay a donation of £1.

Please note that there is no expectation to purchase new jumpers. If students do not have one and want to participate, then we encourage our students to be imaginative by perhaps adding a bit of tinsel or baubles to an existing jumper. It promises to be a day of collective kindness and festive colour. We will also be having our Christmas lunch on this day. As with last year, the Christmas lunch will be free to all staff and students so that we can all participate in the fun.
