We aim to provide, for all students in all key stages, a broad and balanced curriculum which not only encompasses those elements required by law, but which broadens, enriches and stimulates individual learning.
Additionally at all key stages there is an extra-curricular programme that provides students with the opportunity to develop their skills and interests further. There is also the opportunity to undertake a wide range of leadership roles.
We operate a two week timetable with 24 periods a week. Lessons are one hour in length.
At KS3 Maths, English and Science are set either by prior attainment at KS2 or attainment at the end of Year 7. All other subjects are taught in mixed ability groups. In Design and Technology at Key Stage 3 students are placed in mixed ability sets, divided into smaller classes; Food, Product Design and Graphics are the subjects followed.
In Years 9, 10 and 11 Maths, English and Science are all set but may vary between subjects. RE is taught in English sets. All other subjects are taught in option blocks and are subjects selected by the students at the end of KS3.
All Key Stage 5 subjects are opted for with the exception of GCSE English Language and Maths. If a student has not achieved at least a “4” grade at Key Stage 4 then they need to continue studying either GCSE English or Maths until they achieve a minimum “4” grade.
